Motorable road in every village by 2019: Rijiju

Rijiju assured that there would be motorable road in every village of Arunachal before the end of 2019. The MoS while attending the 36th foundation day of the East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) here on Friday further disclosed that Arunachal Pradesh will be the only state, as of now, to reap this benefit initiated by the Union Home Ministry.
"Every village in Arunachal Pradesh, even if it has only two houses, will get motorable road before 2019. This is my commitment to the people of Arunachal. If I fail to fulfill my commitment I do not think I will be able to face the people," Rijiju exuded confidence.

Minister lays foundation stone of GNM School

PASIGHAT, Oct 25: Health and Family Welfare Kalikho Pul today laid the foundation stone of Govt. School of Nursing for GNM courses at Pasighat.
The Nursing Institute for General Nurse Midwifery (GNM) under the State Health and Family Welfare (Training and Research) directorate will offer diploma in GNM. The classes for its 35 first batch students have started from this academic year.
The Minister accompanied by Education Minister Tapang Taloh, and Member of Parliament Ninong Ering and former Education Minister Bosiram Siram also inaugurated the District Priority Laboratory and Dialysis unit of Pasighat General Hospital and inspected various departmental wards including Blood Bank, ICU and Operation Theatre of the hospital. He also visited the District Tuberculosis (TB) hospital, School of Nursing set up inside Pasighat General Hospital and ANM hostel. The Minister also interacted with the trainee ANMs, took stock of the problems faced by them and assured fund for renovation of the hostel.
The Minister participated in ‘Capping Ceremony’ of the newly passed out ANMs at General Hospital auditorium this evening.
Describing nursing as a noble profession, the Health Minister exhorted the nurses to serve the patients with humane touch and take their proper care.

Encourage spices cultivation in Arunachal: CM

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Chief Minister Nabm Tuki has suggested the Spices Board of India to come up with a comprehensive proposal to exploit the huge spice production potentials of the state with easy access of farmers to market without involving middlemen.
Addressing the inaugural function of the two days national seminar organized by Spices Board to encourage spices crops cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh here today, Tuki said that spices sector has so far been not exploited to its fullest potential in the state and requested the Board to extend its cooperation to the state with all the schemes and programmes that the Board has initiated or will be initiating in the future.
Tuki said that the state government will undertake spices cultivation and its marketing in a mission mode by covering this sector under the state flagship programme in coordination with the Spice Board.

“We are ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Spice Board in this regard,” he said, and asked the Department of Horticulture and Spices Board to work out the modalities after discussing it in detail.
He urged the Spices Board to establish Common Facility Centers and Spice Parks in the state owing to vast land resources as well as suitable climatic conditions.
Further, besides promoting cultivation of contemporary spices, he said, the Board can also study and exploit the potential in our traditional spices, which have medicinal values not known to the outside world. This would immensely benefit our rural farmers, who are experts in identifying and cultivating such traditional spices.
Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Chowna Mein said that spices could be a real boon for the farmers of the state with high demands in the global market.
He advocated for setting up of processing centers in all the districts of the state to help the progressive farmers to boost cultivation.
Stating that Arunachal is the second largest producer of cardamom in the region after Sikkim, Mein said, "There is no known spice which cannot be cultivated in the state.”

He informed that Spices Board has prepared comprehensive project for development of spice and submitted it to all the state governments, including Arunachal Pradesh for funding from Mission of Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIHD) under Union Ministry of Agriculture. He requested the state government to evaluate these projects and recommend for funding from MIHD.
He also informed that the Board is going to establish common processing units popularly known as “Spices Park” in a big way to process and market the spices from North East. In this regard, discussions were already held with the state governments and process for identification of suitable land was going on for establishing the parks.
In Arunachal Pradesh, he said, the state government had identified 10 acres of land in and around Ziro in Lower Subansiri district. The Board, however, advised the state government to identify lands closer to main road to reduce the cost of building infrastructure.
He informed that the Board has already strengthen the zonal office in Itanagar by posting additional staff and scientists and also has established an office at Pasighat and in Tinsukia, Assam to help the spices farmers of the state.

Spices Board chairman calls on Governor
ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Dr. A. Jayathilak, Chairman, Spices Board of India, who is also Chairman, Rubber Board of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhawan here today. They discussed on various programmes taken up in the State under the Spices and Rubber Boards of India.
The Governor emphasized for more schemes and programmes under Spices Board of India and Rubber Board of India to strengthening the rural economy of the State. He said that it will be a good opening and opportunity for the people, while highlighting the scope for spice cultivation in different parts of the State especially the high altitude region and Rubber in the lower belt.
The Governor said that special endeavour in these sectors will help in arresting Jhum cultivating amongst the rural communities, which in turn will facilitates in maintaining the forest cover. He also said that it will help in providing stable source of livelihood for the rural people.
The Governor suggested for setting up of more offices of the boards in the State and private sector participation in the programmes.
The Governor pointed that as the State is in developmental phase, the Spices Board have to impart better and technical production methods and guide the entrepreneurs and farmers on getting higher and better quality yields through scientific agricultural practices. It should also recommend improved processing practices, foolproof quality management systems, improved grading methods and effective packaging techniques so that the people benefits from their enterprises. He also suggested for same approach by the Rubber Board also.
The Governor asked Dr. Jayathilak to explore ways and means to facilitate its commercial enterprises, especially providing easy access of farmers to market and good price for the produce.

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: A police team led by Yazali police station OC Inya Ete pursued a group of masked robbers who had blocked the road between Yachuli and Yazali by staking boulders on the night of October 22 last.
Home Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya told this daily that while he was on way to Lower Subansiri district tour from Itanagar, he found the road blocked and a group of masked men waiting on the road side and directed his PSOs to act.
While the PSOs fired 10 rounds in the air forcing the miscreants to flee, Ete arrived at the spot along with a police team to launch search operation.
Saaya said that the group probably had laid an ambush to loot passerby without any idea that he would be coming.
Condemning the act as cowardly in a peace loving state, he directed the police to launch investigation, nab the culprits and award them exemplary punishment. “The present government led by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is committed not to tolerate any form of crime and deal with any form of crime and the criminals with an iron hand”, he said with conviction.

Saaya in his speech said that life of people living in right bank of Panyor River will become much easier once the bridge is constructed. He suggested people of Yachuli and Yazali areas to take up agriculture, horticulture and other allied practice to enhance rural economy like the people in Pistana circle who cultivate and produce large quantity of Cardamom. “The LAD fund will be utilized in these sectors for the development of the area”, he said.
Terming the panchayat institute as the backbone of the rural society, he said no development can be brought into the area unless panchayat members cooperate in all the activities. While suggesting the panchayat leaders to work together for development of the area, he, however, cautioned them not to mix the development with politics for greater interest of the common people.
Talking about the RTI, he said that though the Right to Information (RTI) Act has been enacted by the government for the betterment of citizens but sometimes it has been misused by some groups for easy earning which disturb the officers of the implementing agencies. Such activities hamper development process of the area, he said and suggested that panchayat members and GBs have to control such activities.
Saaya further gave importance on maintaining peace in the district for all round development. Disclosing availability of job opportunities and quotas in Govt. agencies for sport person, Saaya encouraged the youth to take up sports.
Talking about importance of the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” he suggested people of the district to maintain cleanliness throughout the year.

Review meeting on law and order held
ZIRO, Oct 25: A review meeting on law and order of Lower Subansiri district was convened by the Deputy Commissioner, Kanki Darang at Ziro yesterday.
Attending the meeting MLA Tage Taki felt that the crime, law and order problems would find no place in the society if citizens develop a sense of responsibility towards the society. We should plan strategies methods to ensure our own safety. He suggested appointments of night watchmen for all sectors and directed sector secretaries to mobilize a minimum donation of Rs 100 from each household to bear the salaries requisite for the watchmen. He assured that government will also support such activities.
He particularly advised the students and youth leaders to channelize their energy for a good cause. Recreational camps, awareness camps and personality development camps should be organized to instill in them a sense of responsibility towards the society, he added.

Emphasizing on quality education, he directed the DDSE to submit a detail report of teachers and actions taken by the school management committees and insisted on preparations of master plan by SMCs of all the schools in the Ziro plateau. This would facilitate uniform and a need based development of schools, he reasoned.

Resonance – the college week of Saint Claret College concludes
ZIRO, Oct 25: In a span of one week, Saint Claret College Ziro conducted three of its signature events, namely, Resonance, the college week, Claretian Universal Mission Day, and Gastronomia, the food 'n' fun fest respectively. These three events, with their unique objectives, complemented the regular curricular thrust of the college, creating a sense of mission, charity, and healthy competitive and cooperative spirit among students.
Though two minor items still remain to be completed under Resonance, the Champions have already been decided: Rocking Red Pandas, with 208 points in their kitty, are beyond the reach of any other team. This year’s Resonance was uniquely enriched by the daily news bulletin, The Resonance Post, by the Department of Mass Communication.
The College week ended with the celebration of the Claretian Universal Mission Day (CUMD), a day set aside close to the Feast of St. Anthony Claret, the patron saint and namesake of the College, to help the stakeholders of SCCZ, especially the staff and the students, to get to know Claretian missionaries and their works in various parts of the world. This year’s focus was on “Hogares Claret” (“Claret Homes”), a project began 27 years ago by Claretians in the drug and mafia ravaged Columbia, to save the lives of the youth who would otherwise be lost in drug abuse, gang life, and prostitution.
Currently there are 54 such Claret Homes through which some 24,000 children have been saved from such social evils and given a bright future.
During the event, Hibu Tama, Principal, Govt. Higher Secondary, Ziro, released the College research Journal, “The InterViews: An Interdisciplinary Journal in Social Sciences., while Habung Tamang, Principal, The Himalayan Heritage Academy, released the College newsletter, The Claret Times.
The culminating event of the CUMD was the “Gastronomia,” a food and fun festival, organized by the various departments in order to raise funds for charity. The Fest showcased the diverse culinary skills of the staff and the students and a rich variety of local and national recipes, which were greatly appreciated and enjoyed by the student community and the many visitors. It was a fitting way to end Resonance and celebrate the Feast of St. Claret.

Painting competition for school children held
ITANAGAR, Oct 25: As a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a painting competition for school children was organized by Department of Urban Development and Town Planning here at Science Centre, Indira Gandhi Park today.
Coordinated by DDSE Papum Pare, students from various schools of Capital Complex participated in the painting competition.
In the junior group category, Kara Onna of Nirjuli VKV, Dora Ashish of Lobi Govt. Middle School and Tamanna Mundhara of Naharlagun Little Rose School secured first, second and third position respectively. While in senior group category, Naharlagun Little Star School’s Nabum Kikum and Yukum Biyu, and Manish Nath of VKV, Nirjuli were awarded first, second and third prize respectively. Cash prizes and certificates were given to the winners by the department.
In his speech, UD joint director Taring Darang asked the students to maintain cleanliness in and around school, and also at their homes. He also exhorted them to pass on the message of cleanliness to their respective parents as well as to their neighbours to make conducive environment.
